Portrait Commission Details
The first step we'll take in the process of creating your pet's portrait, is to choose a photo to work from. This is really the most important step, as the better the photo, the better the finished portrait will be. It may be helpful if you send a couple of different options. Please read through these photo tips.
Next you will need to contact me.
Together we'll choose the best photo to work from, and you can decide what size you would like it to be. I work on heavy weight 100% cotton, acid free paper and illustration board. To limit fading, protect the surface and eliminate wax bloom, all portraits are finished with a UV blocking fixative.
According to the high quality paper manufacturer Strathmore, "There are no colored, toned or tinted papers that are completely fade resistant. All papers will fade to some extent over time, even if they are acid free." This is why I prefer to work with white paper, however, I will try to accommodate any personal preferences.
By focusing on a pet's head and shoulders, I am able to best get the detail, color and personality of your pet. The standard sizes I use are 8"x10", and 11" by 14."
The base rate for an 8" x 10" colored pencil portrait is $300. The base rate for 11" x 14" is $450. There are some distinct drawbacks, so I prefer not to draw multiple pets on one page. The base price includes one pet. Two pets in a portrait would double the base rate.
Please read my terms and conditions. If you agree, you will be asked to pay a $50 non refundable deposit and a date for work to commence will be set. Please allow a minimum of 4 weeks for completion. Feel free to email me, and I will let you know how your portrait is progressing.
Upon completion of the drawing I will email you a photo of the portrait for your approval. If you are satisfied with the result you will be asked to pay the remaining balance, and then your portrait will be shipped out to you.
